Auditions for the Pink Hammer

17 August @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Auditions

Sunday 17 August, 1pm Muritai School Hall, Eastbourne

Production dates – 30-31 October – 1, 6-8 November

Open auditions, no bookings required, nothing to prepare

Four women; Siobhan, Louise, Annabel and Helen, sign up for The Pink Hammer – a women’s only woodworking course to learn carpentry skills only to find that the tutor, Maggie (who we never meet), has done a runner with their fees and left behind her disgruntled husband Woody, who finds his “man-cave” invaded by the four women.

Not the sort to back down from a challenge, the group convince Woody to be their tutor and teach them the tricks of the trade in a very funny yet poignant and heart-warming Kiwi comedy.

“…a comedy which, despite all its outward affability and talent to amuse, reveals something deeper about human relationships” The Press

The Pink Hammer is Kiwi comedy at its best. It’s quirky as all hell; it’s very funny; it provides phenomenally strong roles for four women – and one guy! – but more than anything else, these are recognisable New Zealanders, which is why this is an outstanding play to produce.”

Characters: Ages approximate only

Siobhan – in her 30’s. Bursting with energy, a not-so-innocent-abroad young Irish woman whose self-centred free spirit comes up for reappraisal by herself as well as others. She works as a nurse in the local vet clinic

Louise – in her 40’s. Insecure, timid, nervous, apparently lacking in worldly experience but very sweet and warm hearted. A retired nurse living at home looking after her mum.

Annabel – in her 50’s. Extremely assertive and a staunch modern woman pushing hard feminism down everyone’s throats. She’s a therapeutic counsellor with a few skeletons in the closet.

Helen – 50’s – 60’s A self-sufficient, self-confident women without a maternal bone in her body and who isn’t one for small-talk or other womanly virtues like ‘bringing a plate’. A horse-breeder with two grown sons from different fathers living overseas.

Woody – in his 30’s – 40’s. A builder whose been made redundant, he’s a typical kiwi bloke who likes nothing better than to hang out in his “man cave” and not have to cope with the women and their chatter invading his space.
