Auditions for BCTT’s The Nerd, by Larry Shue, are scheduled for 2pm on Sunday 6 April, in the Muritai School Hall.
Set in the mid-Western, mid-sized city of Terre Haute, Indiana, Willum’s architectural career is ticking along nicely. When he has a surprise phone call and hears that he will finally meet the man (Rick Steadman) who anonymously saved his life in Viet Nam, he is thrilled. His positive outlook quickly turns sour when he discovers that Rick is a hopeless nerd, devoid of any social and emotional intelligence. And when Rick moves in with him without being invited, his life turns upside-down and all he can focus on is how to make him leave, and soon!
Director Suzy Cain is looking to cast five roles (not too worried about accents):
Willum Cubbert – the main protagonist – he is an up-and-coming architect, talented, kind, and in love with Tasnsy – male role/ between 30-40/ large role
Tansy McGinnis – female lead – spunky and funny, she is looking to pursue a career as a ‘Weather Girl’ truly does love Willum but is waiting for him to grow up a bit – 30-40 / large role
Warnock Waldgrave – a self-made man who owns a score of hotels, grumpy, lacking a sense of humour (very funny role). Husband to Clelia and father to Thor. Male 45-60 / medium role
Thor Walgrave – Thor is a brat, full stop. As said in the play – he is the poster child for planned parenthood. 7-10/ Male (or possible female) mid -smaller role
Rick Steadman – ‘The Nerd’ – this is a demanding role that requires someone who can do physical, fast-paced comedy. He is socially awkward, emotionally unintelligent and completely unaware of it. Male 30-40, major role
Two roles have been filled: Axel Hammond (drama critic and friend of Willum and Tansy) and Clelia (wife of Warnock and mother to Thor)
