SUMMARY:The Nerd
DESCRIPTION:The Nerd\, by Larry Shue \nOur mid-year production was a comedy by American playwright Larry Shue. \nSet in the mid-Western\, mid-sized city of Terre Haute\, Indiana\, Willum’s architectural career is ticking along nicely. When he has a surprise phone call and hears that he will finally meet the man (Rick Steadman) who anonymously saved his life in Viet Nam\, he is thrilled. His positive outlook quickly turns sour when he discovers that Rick is a hopeless nerd\, devoid of any social and emotional intelligence. And when Rick moves in with him without being invited\, his life turns upside-down and all he can focus on is how to make him leave\, and soon! \nDirector Suzy Cain \n\nHere’s the cast:\n\n\nWillum Cubbert – Philip Rossiter\nTansy McGinnis – Anna Sutherland\nAxel Hammond – Martyn Barry\nRick Steadman – Laurence Ward\nWarnock Waldgrave – John Marwick\nClelia Waldgrave – Nicola Tod\nThor Waldgrave – Freddy Thompson\n\n\nListen to an interview with the director and one of the actors\n\nhttps://bctt.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/HW-Suzy-Cain-Philip-Rossiter-The-Nerd-20250507-1.mp3\n\n\nWatch the trailer:\n\n\n\n\n2025 The Nerd25 photos

SUMMARY:The Foreigner
DESCRIPTION:The Foreigner\, a play by Larry Shue first produced on Broadway in 1984 was presented in October 2024 directed by Suzy Cain. \n\n2024 The Foreigner19 photos\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n\n\nPublicity October 2024 \nMistaken identities\, evil adversaries\, plot twists\, and absurd excesses are in store for Butterfly Creek Theatre Troupe’s final production of the year\, The Foreigner by Larry Shue.  Rehearsals are now underway. \nWinner of two Obie Awards\, two Outer Critic Circle Awards and named the Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production of 1984\, this modern farce remains a staple of regional and community theatre. \nDirector Suzy Cain\, (along with Assistant Director Nicola Tod) has assembled a fantastic cast and Cain is looking forward to working on the play again.  She did the role of Catherine about 30 years ago at the Riverside Theatre\, Vero Beach\, Florida (See photo). \n“I loved the play from the first read-through back then – not only is it a hilarious play\, full of ridiculous circumstances\, witty dialogue\, and great characters\, but it deals with some timeless themes – believing in yourself\, honestly is the best policy in the end\, and the ultimate triumph of good over evil.  Charlie Baker (the main character) is someone we can all see bits our ourselves in – shy\, insecure\, wanting to be left alone for now….who blossoms over the timeframe of the play into someone who feels confident\, smart\, and accepted. “ \nDon’t miss this off-beat comedy that is sure to tickle your funny bone! \nWarning: this production contains a comic depiction of the Ku Klux Klan \nSee the Facebook trailer here
