SUMMARY:Macbeth
DESCRIPTION:This was the 28th consecutive year that the Troupe had presented a Shakespeare production – and the second time we have presented Macbeth (previously 2008).  This year’s production was Bard in the Yard and the weather gods were favourable with only one night having to move into the school hall. \nAllan Burne\, who played Macbeth\, won an Antoinette Award for Excellence in Acting at the annual Wellington District Theatre Federation Full Length Play Competition. \nThe play was presented in a crime family setting. The three witches were described as Three Women and were present on stage during the whole production playing multiple roles. \nCast\n\n\n\nWoman 1\, Old Man\, Seyton\, Murderer 3\nTanya Piejus\n\n\nWoman 2\, Servant\, Gentlewoman\, Murderer 2\nMatty Reeves\n\n\nWoman 3\, Porter\, Servant\, Murderer 1\nSuzy Cain\n\n\nDuncan (the Boss)\, Old Siward\nMartin Robinson\n\n\nMalcolm\nLaurie Ward\n\n\nDonalbain\, Lady McDuff\nAnna Sutherland\n\n\nLennox\nHayden Rogers\n\n\nMcDuff\, Sergeant\nMartyn Barry\n\n\nMacbeth\nAllan Burne\n\n\nMacbeth’s Wife\nLian Buther\n\n\nRoss\nNicola Tod\n\n\nAngus\, Doctor\nWill Clannachan\n\n\nBanquo\nPhilip Rossiter\n\n\nFleance\, Waiter\nTimothy Prebble\n\n\nMaster MacDuff\nTheo Hewitt\n\n\nYoung Siward\, Waiter\nEleanor Crampton\n\n\nCREW\n\n\nDirectors\n`John Marwick & Elspeth Cotsilinis\n\n\nProduction Manager\nWendy Timarac\n\n\nStage Manager\n \n\n\nCostumes\nGael Wellington/Kristi Lofthus Kleijn\n\n\nProps\nWendy Timarac\n\n\nSound Design\nLaurie Ward\n\n\nSound Operator\nAmelia Prebble\n\n\nSet Design\nJohn Marwick & Elspeth Cotsilinis\n\n\nSet Construction\nMembers of the Troupe\n\n\nWritten Publicity\nAnne Manchester\n\n\nSocial Media\nLian Butcher\n\n\nPhotography \nVideography\nHayden Rogers \nAlex Walker\n\n\nFront of House Lead\nLesley Fogarty\n\n\n\n\n2024 Macbeth35 photos\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n\n\nFrom the Directors \nMacbeth has been reimagined in many ways since it was first performed in 1606. We decided to set it in a modern crime family thinking about ambition\, motivation\, and conscience in a setting built on loyalty and violence. Macbeth and his wife betray their friends in pursuit of power. They are so focussed on ambitions that they go ahead despite everything and they are open to the negative influences of the three women\, and they lose their strength in each other. \n“Nought’s had\, all’s spent\,\nWhere our desire is got without consent.” \nPUBLICITY MATERIAL – 2024\nSomething wicked this way comes – the only Summer Shakespeare in the Wellington region this year. \nA stunning\, contemporary production of Shakespeare’s fast-paced and powerful tragedy of unchecked power and ambition. Macbeth leads the notorious Scotland crime family’s successful fight against rebels and rivals but he and his wife are ambitious for power. He murders the Boss\, Duncan\, and assumes control of the family. But who can he trust? Things quickly start to fall apart. Blood will have blood as Macbeth sinks into despotism\, friends turn against him and his wife dies. \nWrap up warmly for this outdoor Bard in the Yard production (inside if the weather is poor) at Muritai School yard in Eastbourne. Directed for the award-winning Butterfly Creek Theatre Troupe by John Marwick and Elspeth Cotsilinis. \n \nRestrictions: Includes violence – parental guidance recommended.
